Hononegah's Cassioppi wins Dvorak Invitational title

Hononegah Indians sophomore Tony Cassioppi took 3rd place in last year's Dvorak Invitational at Harlem High School, and returned this year to take the podium's top spot.

Cassioppi defeated Fremd's Zack Nemec in the 285-pound division title match to win the heavyweight class' championship. He spent the week training with Rockton's Corey Anderson to prepare for the tournament, and the results paid off with a gold trophy finish.

Hononegah had multiple placers at the Dvorak, including Fernie Silva, Jordan Shahrikian, and Blake Zalapi. Harlem sent Dylan Elmore and Anthony McKinney to the podium, while perennial state contender Dakota placed four - Greg Krulas, Nate Olsen, Drew Wenger and Maverick Mcpeek. Freeport's Major Dedmond and Boylan's Sean Barelli also finished in the top eight.
