High winds will slam the Stateline tonight, with wind gusts over 45 mph. A Wind Advisory issued by the National Weather Service will be in effect until 3 a.m. Friday to highlight the strong winds between 45 mph and 55 mph. Anyone taking to the roads late tonight or early tomorrow for the holiday will have a difficult time driving.
Be sure to have a firm grip on the steering wheel, especially in high-profile vehicles that can catch the winds easier. These winds may also knock down small branches and twigs off of trees, so watch out for falling objects. Secure any loose items in your yard that might be blow away or over.
The winds are coming from a strong push of cold air that sparked thunderstorms earlier in the evening. The winds should settle down some by sunrise Friday, then continue to decrease throughout the day; however, winds may still gust to 25 mph at times into Friday afternoon and evening.
Be ready for difficult driving conditions over the next 24 hours, with quieter weather arriving by Christmas Eve night. For updates, check out www.wrex.com/weather.
