Community volunteers deliver 100 boxes of food to Stateline seniors
ROCKFORD (WREX) -
100 Stateline seniors in need of food this month received a holiday delivery. Volunteers delivered 100 boxes of food to homes across the region.
The deliveries were made possible by a partnership between Lifescape Community Services and the Northern Illinois Food Bank. Lifescape says they currently have 300 homes on a waiting list they are unable to serve due to a lack of funding.
The NIFB stepped in to fill the void for 100 of those homes waiting for assistance. Both organizations say the food boxes are essential for many of these seniors.
"It's a vulnerable population, both from a nutritional standpoint and a medical standpoint. 69 percent of the patients we serve have to choose between buying medicine or buying food," an official said.
Volunteers from Watt Global Publishing helped distribute the boxes, saving Lifescape more money in gas alone.
