The Golden Apple Foundation has picked 20 finalists from Winnebago and Boone counties for the 2016 Golden Apple Awards.
The teachers were picked by a selection committee of community volunteers from a pool of nominees. Only teachers from PreK to the 5th Grade were chosen.
The 20 finalists are as follows:
The finalists will be observed by trained community volunteers on four occasions from Jan. 19 to Feb. 19, and then will be interviewed in the final stage of the process. The process will narrow the finalists to the final five, who will receive Golden Apple Awards in surprise classroom presentations featured here on 13 WREX and the Rockford Register Star.
Each Golden Apple winner will receive a cash award, professional development stipend, Rockford University Scholarship, laptop computer plus computer software, a desktop computer and two season tickets to the Rockford Coronado Concert Association 2016-2017 season.
The teachers will also be recognized at the annual Golden Apple Banquet on May 6 at the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center.
