RVC Board will eliminate positions to counter budget shortfall
ROCKFORD (WREX) -
We now know how Rock Valley College will make up for a big hole in its budget. There will be layoffs.
The job cuts will affect dozens of employees.
The board discussed a plan to reduce 44 positions from the payroll.
Fourteen of those jobs are currently vacant.
Our media partners at the Rockford Register Star report no faculty or union employees were included in the staff reduction.
The move is expected to save the college around $2 million.
"I've been at the college for 17 years," said Mike Mastroianni, the college's president. "These are people who I've worked with and who have been friends. It's never an easy decision to make. There's never a good time to make it."
