Saturday, December 5, at around 1:50 p.m., the Ogle County Sheriff's Office responded to a two-car accident.
The cars hit head on in the 2900 block of South Illinois Route 2 in Oregon. Portions of IL Rt. 2 were closed temporarily due to the crash. Police say after investigating they revealed the southbound car crossed the center line and struck a car driving north.
The car driving south was driven by Janice Garren, a 59-year-old woman from Dixon. Garren was transported by Life Flight Helicopter to the hospital in serious condition.
Garren's front seat passenger, identified by the Lee County Coroner & Ogle County Sheriff's Department as 66-year-old Loraine Landheer of Dixon, was transported to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
The northbound vehicle was driven by Susan Keller, a 56-year-old woman from Oregon, and she was hospitalized. Officials say her injuries are non-life threatening. 13 News will continue updating you as this story develops.
