Rockford Police have tracked down the driver involved in a deadly hit-and-run over the Fourth of July weekend.
Officers said 39-year-old Jami Smith, of Rockford, was arrested earlier Thursday on Seminary Street.Investigators said smith struck 58-year-old Marvin King with her car around 2:15 p.m. on July 5. King was pronounced dead at the scene.Witnesses told police he was hit on Auburn Street while walking the opposite way the car was coming.Smith is charged with leaving the scene of a fatal traffic accident, not having car insurance and driving with a suspended license.Bond has been set at $500,000 in her case.
