The El Nino Effect


El Niño is a semi-regular climate pattern that causes the waters in the Pacific Ocean near South America to warm, which in turn alters the jet stream over North America. 

For the Midwest, this usually means a warmer and drier winter, depending on the strength of the El Niño. This year, El Niño looks to be very strong and rivaling the top events.
