The cross country season has hit the playoff regional stage as local runners compete for coveted spots at sectionals next week.
The 13 Sports Authority visited Spencer Park in Belvidere as Belvidere North hosted the 2A regionals. The girls meet featured Boylan junior Delaney Appino winning top individual honors while Belvidere North won the team title. Boylan, Freeport, Dixon, Sterling, and Marengo all advanced as teams.
The 2A boys meet provided the clean sweep for Belvidere North as top individual finisher Eryk Yunk helped the Blue Thunder to the team title. Rockford Christian, Dixon, Sterling, DeKalb, and Marengo advanced as teams.
The 1A meet in Winnebago sent the Indians, Byron, North Boone, and Durand to the 1A sectionals. The girls race featured Rockford Christian, Winnebago, Byron, and Durand punching their sectional tickets.
The 3A regional at Hononegah saw multiple local teams advance - the Indians, Harlem, East, and Jefferson will represent as teams at the 3A sectional. Auburn's Quinten Nevenhoven, Harrison DeBruler, and Joseph Choi, along with Guilford's Luke Barelli and Joah Linhart will compete as individuals. Advancing teams at the 3A girls regional at Hononegah were the Lady Indians, Harlem, Auburn, and Jefferson. Local individual girls advancers include East's Gabriela Torres, Caroline Mickle, and Adriana Flores, along with Guilford's Megan Gilfillan and Mackenzie Pass.
