'The Kids Need Us' holds donation drive for homeless students
ROCKFORD (WREX) -
More than 1,200 kids in Rockford Public Schools do not have a home.
'The Kids Need Us' is an initiative formed to help the students involved in the Families in Transition Program within Rockford Public Schools.
This is the 3rd year in a row that massive amounts of clothing and school supplies were collected for the students. It happened at the Mondelez International South parking lot from 11 a.m to 4 p.m. Saturday.
After all the items were collected they'll be bused over to the school and sorted to be given to the people in most need of the items.
Mary Trujillo, RPS Families in Transition Program, stated, "Every little bit does really help we have had a lot of people come out today and then at the barrels throughout the community. It really adds up quickly and we have a lot of families that need these services."
Organizers say the items that kids are most in need of are socks and underwear.
