As part of October's Breast Cancer Awareness month across the country, Guilford's football team will take part in raising funds and awareness this week.
The Vikings held a presentation for the football team on Monday, bringing in two guest speakers who both survived breast cancer. Guilford will wear pink as part of their uniforms this Friday against Belvidere, and raise funds all week during school hours.
"I thought it was really important. We're all teachers on this coaching staff. I didn't want them to throw on the pink stuff and not understand what it meant and what we're trying to accomplish so we knew these two ladies and brought them out and I thought it was a great day," said head football coach Mel Gilfillan. "We want to start them out as a volunteer early on. I think it's a way to get them alerted to things happening in their community and that they stay with it."
