Monday, September 21, the YMCA of Rock River Valley honors International Day of Peace by mounting two new peace poles in the state-line area.
The YMCA of Rock River Valley made a pledge of peace and joining a worldwide movement to respect all life, reject violence, preserve the planet and rediscover solidarity.
The Y planted peace poles outside its I.D. Pennock Family YMCA and Northeast Family YMCA locations. A Peace Pole is a hand-crafted monument that displays the message or prayer May Peace Prevail on Earth on each of its four sides in different languages of the world.
The ceremonies will be unique, but will offer an overall message of peace for our community.
Nancy Jenkins, Executive Director, I.D. Pennock Family YMCA, stated, "We are here to promote peace and we are making a pledge here today to respect the community, reject violence and rediscover the earth and the planet that we have."
