On Saturday, September 12, the ORCHiD Neighborhood Association, in partnership with the Rockford Park District, hosted a planting event.
Neighbors and volunteers planted bulbs and flowers in the Seminary Street and College Avenue roundabout. These plants will attract Monarch Butterflies and become a certified Monarch habitat.
Recently, the area has seen violent crime, but volunteers are hoping to bring positive attention to the neighborhood with the butterfly garden.
Joe Owen, member of ORCHiD Neighborhood Association, stated, "This event is just one of the many, many things that ORCHiD is doing to help change the negatives of the past that this neighborhood had."
