Rockford police are investigating an incident on Rockford's west side that appears to be a taunt from a group of motorcyclists that led to a shooting and then a crash.
Police say around 1 a.m. Wednesday they received two calls, one of reckless driving, the other shots fired. They went to the area of Auburn Street and Ridge Avenue and found a motorcycle crash. All of these, police say, are related.
According to police two victims were driving down Kilburn Avenue when a group of 10-12 motorcycles surrounded their car and started making racial slurs toward them.
They continued to follow them when the victims heard the first gun shot. Then one of the motorcyclists pulled next to them and shot once into the car.
Neither of the victims was hit, but the motorcycles still followed them toward Benderwirt and Ridge Avenue where one of them crashed.
Police say the rider of that motorcycle, a 38-year-old man was sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and then to RPD for questioning.
This incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Rockford Police Department at (815) 987-5824.
