Chicago Cubs right-handed pitcher Jake Arrieta threw the first no-hitter for the franchise since 2008, tossing a dozen strikeouts in a 2-0 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The win also snapped a four-game losing streak for the Cubs.
Arrieta completed a 6-0 month of August, registering a 0.43 ERA and allowing just two earned runs in 42.1 innings pitched this month. His no-hitter is the ninth in team history.
It's the sixth no-hitter in Major League Baseball this season and the second in a span of less than ten days against the Dodgers. Mike Fiers threw a no-hitter for the Houston Astros against L.A. on August 21.
