Save-A-Lot on Rockford's West side is officially open. The welcome news to locals in the area was strengthened by a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by representatives from the company along with community leaders such as Mayor Morrissey and Senator Steve Stadelman.
The ceremony was also a celebration for locals living around the location near Central and Auburn, who have not been able to walk to a grocery store in 35 years.
"To see so many people so grateful to have food easily accessible. The majority of my employees either walk to work or take public transportation. And that tells me a lot because until this store opened their choices were very limited on where they could go," Save-A-Lot Store Manager Rico Summer says.
The location is also giving job opportunities close to home.
