Bill Wadley (Auburn '74) and Tom Caccia (Auburn '73) are now head coaches for collegiate men's swimming programs. Caccia coaches at Simpson College in Iowa, while Wadley helms the men's swimming program at Ohio State. They were both coached by Dennis Carlson (East '62) at Auburn, and all three were back in the Forest City for the Northern Illinois Swimming Clinic hosted by Boylan and McGuire Aquatic Club.
Wadley was the lead instructor for the more than 70 young swimmers who participated. He taught key fundamentals and techniques as parents, coaches, and his two Knights colleagues watched from the stands.
"I couldn't be happier. This is one of the great things you do in life, you pay it forward. I think the most important thing for me is to give back to the community and help the young swimmers. I loved my experience and my coach Dennis Carlson was wonderful for me to get excited in the sport and taught me a lot of good things but the most important thing is that I'm still doing it because of my love of sport," Wadley said.
"There's always a special place in my heart for Rockford," Caccia said. "This is where we started. Coach Carlson was the guy that got us going. The way he took care of us is the way I try to take care of my swimmers, and I don't think I'll ever match up to what he did for us."
