Kids Health and Safety Fair draws hundreds of local residents


Saturday, August 8 , the annual Kids Health and Safety Fair was held at Rock Valley College. 

This year's fair featured more than 50 health and safety booths made up of local organizations, businesses and government agencies. This fair is put on annually by State Representative Joe Sosnowski. 

The event was from 11:00 a.m. till  2:00 p.m. outside the Physical Education Center, Parking Lot 1, located at 3301 N. Mulford Road in Rockford. Other features include more than 20 trucks and emergency vehicles, free kid's identification kit, car seat safety check and diabetes screening.

The Rockford Fire Department participated by educating the public on fire safety. Some important tips were not just for the kids, but also for parents who tend to grill during the summer months.

Rockford Fire Inspector, John McGee, says, "Don't leave grills unattended and don't use the burners to burn fat off the grill they need to be manually cleaned and make sure to keep them away from homes.".

In addition, the event featured a free paper shredding truck to dispose of unwanted paper materials.
