A west side Rockford native has exceeded her Kickstarter goal of $93,000 to open a restaurant.
Emily Hurd wanted to open a new brunch restaurant at 1402 N. Main St. called The Norwegian, but found out the building had asbestos. Hurd says that removing the asbestos and fixing the building would cost more than $90,000.
Hurd turned to a Kickstarter campaign to raise the funds for her restaurant. With one day left on her campaign, Hurd has raised more than $98,000.
In an update to her Kickstarter page, Hurd thanked all of those who donated to her campaign.
"I've always been proud to be a part of my community, but never more than today," Hurd wrote.
