The Chicagoland Skydiving Center in Rochelle is hosting a Be The Match Registration Drive on Aug. 15 and 16 to encourage others to donate bone marrow to patients in need.
The event is being spearheaded by Beau Riebe, a 25-year-old skydiving instructor at the Center and bone marrow donor. Riebe joined the Be A Match Registry in 2012, and was identified as a perfect match for a 49-year-old woman with acute myeloid leukemia. Riebe met the patient he donated to, named Dorothy, in April this year.
“The connection I feel with this new family is indescribable," Riebe said. "Meeting Dorothy’s husband and children and seeing what wonderful people they are concreted my belief that Be The Match creates miracles.”
Interested persons can sign up for the registry at the Chicagoland Skydiving Center, located at 1207 W. Gurler Rd. in Rochelle, on Aug. 15 and 16.
Online registration is also available by clicking here, and using the online promo code: SkydiveCSC. Once registered online, a cheek swab kit will arrive in the mail. After sending the finished kit, a match to a patient can be made.
