Harlem rising junior Carson Racich delivered perhaps the biggest and best golf shot of the 2015 Rockford summer season, holing out from 89 yards on the par-four 9th and scoring an eagle to end her round in the Rockford Girls Golf Classic. It proved to be the difference as Racich won the title after a busy season that includes an appearance on the Alpine Bank team at the Rockford PRO/AM, and a semifinal berth in the Rockford Women's City Classic.
"I'm still in shock that went in. I told my mom, I'm not sure what club to hit. She told me to commit, and I was just like leave it short, let it roll up and it went in, I still can't believe it did," Racich said, clutching both of her trophies (age group and overall champion) in disbelief.
"It wasn't her a game. She was having a rough day. She wasn't hitting all of her fairways but she was recovering really well. She struggled but she came out on top," said Kathy Racich, Carson's mother and caddy during the Girls Classic.
It continued the youth movement in the Rockford golf world. Boylan's Kyle Slattery, who graduated just a few months ago, will take an eleven-shot lead into this weekend's third and fourth rounds of the Men's City Classic after he shot a 66 and 64 this past weekend.
