Rockford families are shedding pounds, all thanks to a free program.
Faithful to Fitness is a not-for-profit that works to fight childhood obesity. Once a week children and their families meet at Peak Fitness in Loves Park. The families work out with help from local nurses, medical students, and other volunteers. The families also get free consultations from dieticians as well as healthy cooking classes.
Both parents and kids from the first session were excited to see their final results. Organizers hope this will be a life long change.
"The feedback I get from parents is their child's perception of living healthy," says Faithful to Fitness founder Dr. Katrina Nguyen. "Eating healthy, the way they look at food, the way they look at exercise and being physically healthy."
"You know it's a life change," says Julie Thomas who is a grandmother of one of the participants. "Thanks to Dr. Nguyen's program we all want to get healthy and we have to make sure that we change things in our life so we do continue to be healthy."
The next session begins this Saturday at Peak Fitness from 3 to 4 p.m.
