Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois announced that it has awarded Rock Valley College $11,000 in scholarship funds people with disabilities to advance their education. The money was raised in a community program called 'Round Up' at Rockford and Machesney Park Goodwill stores.
'Round Up' is a program asking Goodwill customers to round up their purchases, with the rounded change contributing to the scholarships. The program also awards scholarships to other community colleges with a total scholarship amount of $44,000.
Goodwill has awarded $68,000 in scholarships to Rock Valley College wince the program began in 2010.
"I am overwhelmed by the generosity shown by our friends at Goodwill and those in the community who made this donation to the college possible," said RVC President Mike Mastroianni. "The impact a scholarship can have on a student’s life is immeasurable.”
The RVC Foundation awarded over $215,000 in scholarships to students in need in 2014.
