National Ice Cream Day brings local businesses together

Sunday, July 19, is known as National Ice Cream Day and brought more than 25 local businesses together to serve their community a tasty treat.

Winnebago Buy Local hosted its 3rd annual "Totally Local Ice Cream Social" at the Lombardi Club, 209 Olive Street, in Rockford.

Admission to this event was only two dollars resulting in a line that trailed out the door. Ice cream was served from Rockton's Dairy Haus along with root beer floats from Rockford Brewing Company.

Once your ice cream choice was complete guests were able to go through a topping line with more than 25 different choices. Among these toppings were gummy worms, whipped cream, M&M's and bacon.

Face painting and raffles were also going on throughout the event. All of the proceeds benefit the youth of Winnebago County.

Lauren Davis, Executive Director of Winnebago Buy Local, explains, "The proceeds are going towards In Youth We Trust, which helps build the leaders of tomorrow within the youth of our community."

Winnebago Buy Local is a not-for-profit group of nearly 200 locally owned business all residing in Winnebago County. For a list of their locally owned businesses or more information visit their website by clicking here.
