On Saturday, July 18, at around 12:05 a.m., officers of the Rockford Police Department responded to the intersection of Grant Avenue and Yonge Street in reference to a report of gunshots being fired.
While officers were checking that area, the 911 Telecommunications Center received a report of a gunshot victim in the 1800 block of Latham Street, about three blocks from the intersection officers were checking.
Upon arrival at 1800 Latham Street, officers located an 18-year-old Rockford man with a single gunshot wound to the right side of his torso.
Police say the victim told the officers he had been walking on the sidewalk near Williams Park, at the intersection of Grant Avenue and Yonge Street, when he heard numerous gunshots and then realized he had been struck. He then ran to a friend's house for help.
Rockford Fire Department paramedics transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Later in the morning in a separate incident, police responded to two other gunshot victims around 3:00 a.m. Saturday.
Police say they responded to the 2500 block of Auburn Street where they found two gunshot victims. One victim was shot in the foot, while the other victim was shot in the thigh. Both victims have non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to two different hospitals.
Information on the three victims is limited at this time. Police say there have been no arrests made or suspect information released on any of the shootings that occurred Saturday morning. These investigations are ongoing.
