More than 10% of the local population doesn't have their high school diploma or GED. An event this week is hoping to bring that statistic down.
A GED fair will take place at the Rockford Public Library this Thursday programs to answer questions. People can also take a free assessment test to see if they are ready to take the full GED.
"We hear from the employers all the time that they're not finding the skilled worker out there," says Northern Illinois Workforce Alliance member John Strandin. "Well the way to get the skills to be hired is to get into some job training, learn some new skills, and finishing High School is the first step."
The assessment tests are being offered at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.and are expected to last 2 hours. If you're interested, make sure to bring a Government issued ID.
