Tornado damaged Woodhaven Lakes will reopen Saturday
ROCKFORD (WREX) -
A Lee County camping resort hit hard by a tornado Monday night will reopen Saturday morning.
Management at Woodhaven Lakes said they, along with authorities, determined the amount of progress made on the clean up effort has made it safe enough to open it up to all property owners with some restrictions.
"However, hazards and risks still exist," said a post on the company's Facebook page. "Conditions for opening include that Sections 22, 23, 25 and a portion of Section 18 will still be restricted and closed to the public. No traffic will be allowed into these areas. Property owners in these sections are being notified with instructions on how they may access their properties. All other sections will be open for access."
The Lee County Sheriff's Office will continue to provide support on the property throughout the weekend, management said. Firefighters and paramedics will also be on hand in the event someone has a medical emergency.
"Our goal for opening this weekend is to allow property owners on the grounds to assess damages to their individual properties and formulate a plan for clean-up and recovery," stated the social media post. "We request that any major cleanup efforts are not undertaken this weekend. Because of this, contractors will not be allowed on property. We want to reiterate there are still many hazards and risks that remain when you enter property. Extreme caution should be exercised in all areas when on the grounds."
The property will be open to the property owners at 8 a.m.
