IceHogs benefit from Blackhawks' success

ROCKFORD (WREX) - The Chicago Blackhawks are Stanley Cup Champions and their win is giving Rockford reasons to celebrate.

According to Rockford Area Venues and Entertainment, the success of the Blackhawks over the past six years has boosted interest in the IceHogs.  During this past season, average ticket sales reached a new record with nearly 5,000 seats filled for every game.

"It's definitely a huge factor for us," says RAVE Executive Director Tony Flynn. "We had 13 guys that were playing on the Stanley Cup roster.  Those are players we had for almost all of the season.  Our fan base really relates and ties in well with them because  they get access to them."

The IceHogs held "Cup Night" back in 2013 when the Stanley Cup visited Rockford.  Flynn says he's hopeful they will host a similar event at the beginning of the next IceHogs season.
