Jayden Dascher holds dozens of photos in his hands of his father Harland Dascher. Jayden and his brother Jeremy are at a loss for words after they found out their father was murdered.
"I'm honestly still in shock," says Jeremy. "I don't have any words to describe the pain."
On Thursday, the 72-year-old Machesney Park man was stabbed to death in the parking lot of a Rockford Walmart. According to police Harland was found around 3 a.m. with stab wounds to the chest. He was transported to a local hospital where he died.
Jayden and Jeremy are left wondering how and why this happened to their dad.
"He's the type of guy whether you were a stranger, friend or foe he would do anything for you," says Jayden.
Before he retired Harland worked second shift at the Belvidere Chrysler Plant. Jayden says it wasn't uncommon for his dad to be up late at night. But the family has no idea who could've taken his life.
Now all they can do is wait for answers and remember their father who was taken too soon.
"I would have never ever of guessed that anybody would want to put harm on him, he was such a kind man," says Jayden.
"It's just unbelievable just the feeling that you get," says Jeremy. "And what gets me the most is the pain that he went through."
No arrest have been made in this incident. Rockford police are investigating, but are asking anyone with information to call them at (815) 987-5824
