BELVIDERE (WREX) -
The City of Belvidere Police Department ran its leg of the 2015 Torch Run on Sunday, June 7th.
Around 30 people ran the six-mile trek through downtown Belvidere. The course started at the Jack Wolf car dealerships in Belvidere and went all the way to Belvidere High School.
Once at the high school, the group was joined by athletes who participate in the Special Olympics for a lap around the track. After a few pictures, the torch backtracked to the car dealerships to finish the run.
Robert Kozlowski, City of Belvidere Police Officer, stated, "I had a great time. I was running hand-in-hand with some of the athletes here and it means so much to them to run with us. There is no quit within them; we will make it all the way to the end."
Organizers say everyone who ran today helped raise money for the Special Olympics. The Torch Run is the largest monetary contributor for the Special Olympics and helps pay for the athletes and their families to travel downstate for competitions.
