PEORIA (WREX) -
Rockford Christian completed a 36-6 season and ended it on the highest of notes, capturing the 2A baseball state championship in a 6-2 victory against Williamsville on Saturday at Dozer Park in Peoria.
The Royals, known for the extra-inning and walkoff wins in the postseason, used the long ball to build a comfortable lead. Senior Jake Kellerman proved to be the catalyst, walloping two left field round-trippers to total four runs batted in on the afternoon.
Brandon Williams pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits and two runs, before Nolan Gazsouski recorded the final championship-winning out.
