Kids' fishing tournament brings together cops and community
ROCKFORD (WREX) -
Saturday June 6th, 'Cops 2 Bobbers' was hosted at Rock Cut State Park's Pierce Lake from 8:00 a.m. till 12:00 p.m.
This free kids' fishing tournament aimed to get children more comfortable around cops through the sport of fishing. They had refreshments and competitions like a casting tournament, to see which kid could toss their line out the farthest.
Sgt. Harold Combs with the Rockford Police Department says, "It's important to us because it involves law enforcement and using law enforcement as mentorship towards these little children. We use fishing as a way to reach out to them."
All kids involved received rewards and trophies. The biggest fish caught was a 32-inch carp caught by a 3-year-old boy.
