ROCKFORD (WREX) -
If you think your insurance rates are already too high, brace yourself, they could go up.
Several Illinois insurers, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, want double-digit rate increases for some 2016 health plans. Time Insurance Company, Coventry, Humana and Health Alliance also want an increase. Illinois requests are as high as 42 percent for a plan offered by Time Insurance Company. Blue Cross is requesting a 38 percent increase for one plan.
A spokeswoman with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois says increases are driven by cost of care, use of services, drug costs and new technology.
We'll find out if those rate increase requests are approved in October.
