Freeport's historic win sets up sectional appearance

FREEPORT (WREX) - Freeport's girls soccer team won the 2A regional championship last week in a 2-0 shutout, and that playoff-advancing victory had historic significance for the Lady Pretzels. It was the first-ever win against Boylan in girls soccer for the school, breaking a 24-game losing streak against the Lady Titans.

"I wasn't sure if it was ever going to come," said Freeport head coach Nick Namio after the victory. "We lost in PK shootouts, we lost by one goal several times. This game could've gone either way. Boylan is a great team, they push us to always play our best, we know that when we train, we train to beat Boylan, they're the reason we're as good as we are. This is everything, I have a ton of alumni in the crowd, the parents, the soccer club, we're excited to move on and excited to get this win."
