Highway construction begins soon on IL 72 near Fairdale
Tuesday, May 12, 2015 3:24 PM EDT
MONROE CENTER (WREX) -
Contractors with the Illinois Department of Transportation will begin construction on Highway 72 near Monroe Center.
Traffic controls were set up along the work zone on Tuesday in advance of the work.
Crews will be making improvement to nearly 5 miles of the highway from I-39 to the DeKalb-Ogle County line west of Fairdale.
The project includes new storm sewers, curb and sidewalk installation.
The cost is $1.5 million, which includes some resurfacing and pavement repairs.
Work is expected to be finished by the end of August. Until then, IDOT is asking drivers to slow down in that area.
The agency said flaggers will direct traffic during the work zone and some side streets will be closed during part of the work.
