MACHESNEY PARK (WREX) -
RPD welcomed 34 Paralympic athletes to the Boys and Girls Club in Machesney Park for a boccia tournament, a derivation of the popular lawn game (spelled "bocce.") Boccia has been a Paralympics mainstay since 1984, and participants of all ages participated in our region.
"It shows that the people that are more disabled can still do an activity that they might enjoy, and it just keeps them active and participating in competitions. So it makes them feel very proud to play and possibly win if they can, if not, it's all for fun, and we all just have a good time," says RPD player Dennis Wallace.
