BALTIMORE, MD (WREX) -
The Chicago White Sox baseball game in Baltimore, scheduled to air tonight on our sister station Me-TV, starting a three-game series with their American League neighbor Orioles, has been postponed by Major League Baseball. Safety concerns as riots continue in the Charm City forced MLB to call off the game, just two days after the city told fans to stay inside Camden Yards as protesters took to Baltimore's streets following the death of Freddie Gray.
Commissioner Rob Manfred spoke to the press in Baltimore after announcing the postponement, saying " the decision was reached after consultation with local officials. We feel we made the decision that would provide us the greatest possible security in terms of protecting the fans, the players, the umpires, everybody involved." Commissioner Manfred did not comment on the status of the rest of the series. No makeup date for tonight's game has been announced.
