WREX honored with 5 awards from Illinois Associated Press

ROCKFORD (WREX) - 13 WREX received five awards from the Illinois Associated Press Broadcasters Association, the most of any broadcast television station in the state.

WREX earned three 1st place honors and two 2nd place. Our NBC affiliate in Chicago, WMAQ, also received five awards. The awards were given out Saturday night as part of the Illinois News Broadcasters Association convention in Normal, Ill.

Here is the list of categories in which WREX was awarded in the Downstate TV competition.
  • Best Reporter - 1st Place, Kristin Crowley. 2nd Place, Rebecca Klopf.
  • Best Series or Documentary - 1st Place, "BraveHearts Therapeutic Riding & Education Center," Kyle Yonkers. 2nd Place, "Reports of Abuse at Rockford Mental Health Facility," Kristin Crowley.
  • Best Investigative Report - 1st Place, "Reports of Abuse at Rockford Mental Health Facility," Kristin Crowley.

Late last week WREX was honored to receive two prestigious regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for excellence in Investigative Reporting and Best Use of Sound/Video.
