Summerfield Zoo continues to rebuild as opening day quickly approaches
More than a dozen volunteers were at Summerfield Zoo Thursday making repairs as it prepares for opening day.
The zoo was heavily damaged after the April 9 tornadoes, but hundreds of volunteers have stepped up to help with repairs.
Project First Rate and its members helped rebuild pole barns that were lost in the tornado.
"We've got a lot of good guys out here and a lot of good gals out here helping out, it's been a terrific experience," said Volunteer James Lewis. "This is our community if we don't support the community we won't have anybody out here supporting our community."
Summerfield Zoo will reopen for the season Saturday.
