LOVES PARK (WREX) -
After two years of fundraising, Maple Elementary School in Loves Park has its own climbing wall.
The school held a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday to celebrate. Maple has been fundraising and buying sections of the climbing wall one at a time. In all it cost $4,200. School leaders say it's an important tool that will play a big role in keeping students healthy.
"You're using muscles that you don't normally use when you're doing physical education. So as you're climbing you're pulling up. You're doing the pull up phase. You're also pushing with your legs working various muscles throughout your body that you don't do just running or playing basketball or any of those sports," said Annette Forrest, a P.E. teacher at Maple Elementary.
A grant along with money donated by people in the community helped buy the wall.
