Flinn Middle students raise $1,500 for tornado victims in penny drive
ROCKFORD (WREX) -
A penny doesn't buy you much these days, but pull all that spare change together and it can amount to something big.
Flinn Middle schoolers in Rockford know that. The student body hosted a penny drive to raise money for tornado victims.
The students presented a $1,500 check to some of their teachers who live in the towns where the tornado struck.
"I guess we kind of got lost in the competition of it," said seventh grader Nicole Grubb. "But once it was over and saw we raised this much money for such a good cause, it made us feel good and happy."
Flinn's principal said the two staff members from Rochelle and Fairdale were not personally impacted by tornado damage.
