Rockford Public Schools announced today the district has filled three open principal positions for the 2015-16 school year.
Janice Hawkins takes over for Devon LaRosa at Auburn High School. Hawkins comes from Guilford High School, where she is currently in her third year at the school in the same position. She taught at Zion Benton High School, and has been an administrator for the Freeport School District, as well as RPS. For Hawkins, this is a homecoming. She is a 1985 graduate of Auburn, where she was a three-sport athlete and in the Creative and Performing Arts program for dance and theatre.
Hawkins' position wasn't open long. Her assistant principal of special education, Jennifer Lawrence, fills Guilford's open principal position. She started working at Guilford in 1998, when she started as a substitute and student-teacher. Lawrence is also a 1989 Guilford graduate, where she ran track, cross-country, and was a cheerleader.
Lastly, Maurice Davis fills the open position at West Middle School. Davis is currently in his fourth year as principal at Welsh Elementary School, and will take over at West in July. Davis has overseen social studies curriculum and has teaching experience in Chicago Public Schools and RPS. Davis is a 1999 graduate of Guilford High School.
That leaves three other principal positions that RPS has to fill: Welsh Elementary School, East High School, and Barbour Language Academy. The district will approve compensation for all the positions later this month.
