ROCKFORD (WREX) -
A lesson about the "King of the 12-string guitar"
Students at RESA Middle School were entertained while learning about folk music legend "Lead Belly".
Folk musician Mark Dvorak teamed with David Causey to put on the presentation "The Life and Times of the Great Lead Belly".
It was sponsored by the Rockford Area Arts Council, to allow the kids to learn about Causey's journey to find the grave of "lead belly, as well as learn about the roots of folk music.
"It's not only a musical thing, but it's a historical thing. It's social studies, and it's music, and it's history,"said Dorothy Paige-Turner, project director
"Lead Belly" is the name for Huddie Ledbetter, the American folk and blues musician noted for his strong vocals and the songbook of folk standards he introduced. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.
