PEORIA (WREX) -
Rockford Lutheran's third trip to state fell short of an appearance in the 3A state championship game as the Crusaders lost to St. Joseph of Westchester 55-38.
The Chargers took a 21-3 lead after the first quarter, and held a 33-11 advantage at halftime. Lutheran fought back to make it an 11-point game in the fourth quarter, but their rally ran out of steam. Senior Joe Kellen finished with 17 points in the loss, and fellow senior Nate Wieting scored 8 points and added 11 rebounds. Lutheran plays Chicago Morgan Park in the consolation game on Saturday at Carver Arena in Peoria.
