Thursday Sports - NIC-10 track meet, Harlem coaching changes, Lutheran sendoff

ROCKFORD (WREX) - Thursday was a busy day in the Rockford region as the rest of the nation settled in for the first round of games of March Madness. Rockford Lutheran received a sendoff from the rest of the Crusaders community prior to their Peoria departure to the 3A Final Four. The Saders play Westchester St. Joseph at 2 PM on Friday for a spot in the 3A state championship game.

Hononegah hosted the NIC-10 indoor girls track meet, featuring a frantic finish in the 4x400 meter relay between the Lady Indians and Belvidere North. The Lady Blue Thunder won the event behind a late push from Jenna Lutzow.

Harlem High School athletic director Kurt Weigt confirmed to the 13 Sports Authority that he has three coaching vacancies to fill for next year. Boys basketball coach Chad Barger resigned, and girls basketball coach Luanna Kish and wrestling coach Tom Draheim did not have their contracts renewed. Weigt would not comment on the reasons behind the changes, but did tell 13 Sports that a search will begin "as quickly as the process allows."
