Rockford is one of Illinois' top 10 cities for going green. That's according to the Citizens Utility Board, also known as CUB.
City officials were presented with the Going Green in 2015 award this morning at City Hall.
CUB officials say Rockford residents earned the award by reducing their carbon footprint and saving more than $42,000.
"So people are trying to find ways to save money and this is one way they can do it. By changing their types of light bulbs and by turning lights off when you don't need to use them," says Engineering Operations Manager Marcy Leach.
Rockford is looking to double energy savings next year.
