A Janesville man faces several charges after a night of drunk driving. According to Janesville Police, 36-year-old David P. Hoiland is being charged with his OWI 6th Offense-Felony, Reckless Driving and Hit and Run to unattended vehicle.
Around 7 p.m. Saturday night, Hoiland arrived at the VFW for a drink. Staff refused to serve him after he appeared very intoxicated, police said. Hoiland then drove off, squealing his tires and almost hitting another vehicle. An off-duty officer spotted the vehicle and followed it until police could stop it. Officers say Hoiland was traveling approximately 80 MPH down Harding to Glen St.
Police say Holland pulled into the Kwik Trip on E. Memorial almost hitting the building. When officers made contact with Hoiland, they say they could detect a strong odor of intoxicant on his breath, his eyes were bloodshot and glassy. Police say his vehicle had fresh damage from a parked car he had hit.
Hoiland's driving record showed he had five prior convictions for operating while intoxicated. Police say Hoiland refused to perform field sobriety tests, a blood draw was done, and he is now being held at the Rock County Jail pending his court appearance.
