Saturday offered a diverse menu of sports in our region, headlined by the evening's RPS Champions Ball that inducted a star-studded class to the Hall of Fame, including the likes of Wisconsin basketball standout Ab Nicholas and Guilford grad and former NFL linebacker Carlos Polk, who both spoke to the 13 Sports Authority during the evening's festivities.
Dakota Wrestling maintained its dominance in this year's state finals in Champaign, boasting six individual state champions. Seniors J.J. Wolfe and Carver James, both signed to Division I scholarships at Eastern Michigan and Illinois next year, won their second and third state titles, respectively.
The Cherry Bowl hosted the girls bowling state finals on Saturday as three NIC-10 teams placed on the last day of the year. Belvidere North (7th), Freeport (9th), and Guilford (11th) represented the NIC-10 well in this year's tournament.
Byron High School hosted the boys swimming sectionals as Hononegah finished with the top team score, followed by the Tigers, Boylan, and Sterling.
