While players are gearing up for the big game this Sunday, wing lovers are preparing for a night known for the massive consumption of chicken wings.
It's estimated that more than 1.1 billion wings will be consumed this Sunday.
So, in preparation, we here at 13 News Today suited up and headed out to some restaurants in the area recommended by viewers.
Our first stop was to Firehouse Pub in Roscoe.
Every Wednesday, the eatery sells 50 cent wings and plenty of them.
About 7,000 wings are sold on average, and according to owner Micheal Prosser. And come this Super Bowl Sunday, they sell as many as 10,000 wings.
According to him, their success comes from the variety of sauces on and off the menu.
"People have come in and given us an idea of something that they want to taste and we'll whip it up in the back and we'll make it for them," Prosser said.
Across town, another bar is gearing up for the big day.
Boomers Bar and Grill on Rockford's east side say's they'll go through plenty of wings too. A bulk of their sales will come from take-out wings.
Owner Perry Dalib says it's not the quantity, but quality, that makes the wings so good.
Their "boom boom" sauces, Dalib says, draws a crowd of many for its fiery heat, but for some, its still not hot enough.
"But for those who even like hotter, we have regulars that bring in scorpion peppers or ghost peppers and we work to make a special sauce that will make your eyes tear up," Dalib said.
We had our fair share of wings, and can't wait to try more, even after the Super Bowl.
