UPDATE: Victim identified in Rockford's fourth homicide of 2015
ROCKFORD (WREX) -
UPDATE: Rockford police release the identity of the man found shot and killed Sunday morning on the city's southeast side.
They say 37-year-old Christopher A. Kearns of Rockford was discovered in the driver's seat of a car parked in the 1700 block of 17th Street.
Kearns sustained a gunshot wound to the head, police say. He was pronounced dead on the scene by paramedics. Kearns also resided in Montgomery City, Ill., according to police.
No arrests have been made. This case marks Rockford's fourth reported homicide investigation in 2015.
Early this morning, police say a passerby noticed a parked vehicle with the driver-side window partially broken out, with the engine still running and the headlights on. The passerby also witnessed a person sitting in the driver's seat suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head.
The incident is being investigated as a homicide and there are no suspects in custody. The identity of the victim has not been released at this time and the incident is still under investigation.
